Sip & Paint: BUILD’s Community Art Night Series
October 9, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm$35
Join us for the first “Sip & Paint” event supporting BUILD’s annual art show! This painting event is led by BUILD’s Manager of Arts Academy programs Ric Miranda, and gives you a chance to have fun and let your creativity shine–all while supporting Chicago’s youth. Upon registration you will be asked to submit a design you like, and our Arts team will trace it onto a canvas so it’s ready to paint upon arrival! Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here. All proceeds benefit BUILD’s Art Academy programs. Spots are limited, and face masks are mandatory! Your Sip & Paint ticket purchase includes admission into the “Purposed for this Moment” Art Show benefit February of 2021.
Since 1969, BUILD has helped Chicago’s most vulnerable youth escape gangs and violence to become positive leaders in their communities. These young people face enormous obstacles and trauma, BUILD surrounds them with the care, mentoring, and opportunities they need to envision and build a successful future. The visual and performing arts are especially central to our mission. They are integrated across all our programs, from afterschool enrichment to mental health care for trauma. BUILD’s Arts Academy is led by a former gang intervention specialist, Ric Miranda, whose art drove his own transformation. Knowing how powerfully the arts can engage the heart and mind, Ric helps youth use them to refine and amplify their own voices, and express their own truths.
The 2021 Theme: “Purposed for this Moment” What do “these unprecedented times” mean to you – and how are you responding? In this time of so much crisis, what has been your greatest challenge – and your greatest triumph? In this moment of pandemic and violence, of anguished cries for justice, of communities coming together to support one another – what power have you found in yourself as you respond? What have you been called to do, and how does it feel?
